ManyChat pricing calculator: Active Contacts, overage and the real monthly bill
The short answer
ManyChat bills a plan price plus a fee for every Active Contact above the plan's monthly allowance. Month-to-month, Pro is $39 for 2,500 then $0.05 each, Business $99 for 7,500 then $0.025, Advanced $199 for 25,000 then $0.004. So 10,000 active contacts costs $161.50 on Business. Annual billing lowers both numbers.

Calculate your ManyChat bill
Enter the people who message, comment or reply to a story in a month, not your follower count. The calculator picks the cheapest ManyChat plan that has your channels, Inbox seats and AI, and puts a flat-priced AI inbox next to it for reference. The address bar keeps your inputs, so you can share the link.
People who DM, comment or react to a story in a month, not followers.
Our assumption. Link-only comment replies need fewer, long sales chats need more.

Formula and assumptions
- ManyChat total = plan price + max(0, active contacts - included) x overage rate. The calculator picks the cheapest plan with the channels, Inbox seats and AI you tick; WhatsApp and AI need Pro or higher, and Inbox seats are 1 / 1 / 2 / 3 / 5 on Free / Essential / Pro / Business / Advanced.
- Instant Reply total = the cheapest plan with enough seats, channels and AI replies (contacts x replies per contact). Above Pro's 100,000 replies we add 25,000-reply packs at $29. Instagram-only picks can land on Creator, which allows 3 simple comment-to-DM automations.
- WhatsApp message fees are left out on both sides. ManyChat bills delivered messages from a prepaid Wallet; Instant Reply customers pay Meta through their own Meta account, unmarked.
- ManyChat Advanced overage is $0.004 on the pricing page, while its help center says "custom overage pricing". Your account may differ, especially if it predates March 2, 2026.
- Month-to-month ManyChat prices are cross-checked: the pricing page leads with annual prices, and the monthly figures match its 18% / 25% / 30% / 30% discount labels and two independent price trackers.

Free and Essential connect any 2 of Instagram, TikTok, Messenger and Telegram. Pro connects any 3 channels, including WhatsApp, SMS or email. Business and Advanced connect all channels and add the multi-user Inbox with assignments. The pricing page leads with annual prices; month-to-month prices sit behind its toggle and match its 18% / 25% / 30% / 30% discount labels. Accounts created before March 2, 2026 may still be on the older model.
The contact counts where upgrading is cheaper than overage
Overage is fine for a spike. Past these points the next plan costs less than staying put and paying per contact, so it is the number to set your overage cap or upgrade alert against.
Month-to-month
- Essential to Pro: 471 Active Contacts. $17 + 221 x $0.10 is more than $39.
- Pro to Business: 3,701 Active Contacts. $39 + 1,201 x $0.05 is more than $99.
- Business to Advanced: 11,501 Active Contacts. $99 + 4,001 x $0.025 is more than $199.
Billed annually
- Essential to Pro: 433 Active Contacts. $14 + 183 x $0.082 is more than $29.
- Pro to Business: 3,553 Active Contacts. $29 + 1,053 x $0.038 is more than $69.
- Business to Advanced: 11,389 Active Contacts. $69 + 3,889 x $0.018 is more than $139.
What counts as an Active Contact, in ManyChat's words
- Counts: "a real person you interact with during a monthly billing period - whether that happens through messages or automations", including messages sent or received "via automations, AI, Broadcasts, or the Inbox" (pricing page FAQ).
- Counted once: "One person = one Active Contact for the month", however many messages you exchange.
- Does not count: stored contacts who stay silent that month, and manually imported contacts until they send or receive a message (help center).
- Resets: at the start of each billing cycle, monthly even on annual plans; overage is billed monthly.
- Not the same as followers: ManyChat's own wording is that "your follower count is not the same as your Active Contact count".
One viral post
On ManyChat Pro ($39/mo, 2,500 Active Contacts), a post that brings 20,000 extra people into your DMs adds 20,000 x $0.05 = $1,000 of overage that month, $1,039 in total, before WhatsApp fees.
ManyChat gives you tools against this, and we list them: usage alerts at 70%, 90% and 100%, an overage cap in Settings > Billing, and forgiven overage if you upgrade in the same cycle. The cap has a price: after it, automations run only for contacts already active that month, so new people stop entering your flows. On Instant Reply the invoice stays at the plan price and the AI pauses at its reply cap.
Four mistakes in published ManyChat cost estimates
- Mixing billing terms. The annual base with the month-to-month overage rate overstates annual cost and understates monthly. 1,000 Active Contacts on Essential is $75.50 billed annually ($14 + 750 x $0.082) and $92 month-to-month ($17 + 750 x $0.10), not $89.
- Quoting the old model. Plans described as "Pro from $15 for 500 contacts" or a Free plan with 1,000 contacts predate ManyChat's March 2, 2026 Active Contact pricing.
- Counting followers. Only people who interact in the cycle count. Size the input from your monthly DMs, comment replies and broadcast recipients.
- Leaving out WhatsApp. WhatsApp message fees come from a prepaid Wallet on top of the plan, and Pro connects only 3 channels in total.

Where ManyChat is the better pick
- Your job is campaign flows. A visual canvas, 60+ ready-made templates and comment, story and keyword triggers. Instant Reply has no visual campaign canvas.
- You are small. Free covers 25 Active Contacts; Pro with AI is $39 for 2,500, $20 under our Starter.
- You are very large. Advanced is $199 with 25,000 contacts, then $0.004 each. At 50,000 that is $299.
- You need other channels. TikTok, SMS and email, and a 7,000-app Zapier ecosystem with Make, Klaviyo and HubSpot.
Our position: switch when the conversation is the product. If people ask prices, send voice notes and photos, and expect an answer that sounds like your business, an AI inbox with review and handoff beats a flow tree, and a bill that follows AI replies is easier to forecast than one that follows who touched your account.
ManyChat pricing: common questions
How much does ManyChat cost per month?
Month-to-month: Free $0 (25 Active Contacts), Essential $17 (250), Pro $39 (2,500), Business $99 (7,500), Advanced $199 (25,000). Billed annually: $14, $29, $69 and $139 a month. Each extra Active Contact adds $0.10, $0.05, $0.025 or $0.004 month-to-month. Prices exclude tax and depend on your billing country (manychat.com/pricing, October 18, 2026).
What counts as an Active Contact in ManyChat?
A real person you exchange messages with through ManyChat in the billing month: ManyChat says a contact counts "when messages are sent or received through Manychat - via automations, AI, Broadcasts, or the Inbox". A DM, a comment reply or a story reply all count. One person is one Active Contact for the month however many messages you swap.
Do imported or silent contacts count as Active Contacts?
No. ManyChat's help center says manually imported contacts do not automatically count as Active, and contacts who do not interact in a billing month stay stored without counting. Either kind becomes Active the month you message them, for example in a broadcast.
Do Active Contacts reset on an annual ManyChat plan?
Yes. Active Contacts are calculated per monthly billing cycle even on annual plans, and any overage is billed monthly. The count resets at the start of each billing cycle.
What happens when I go over my ManyChat contact limit?
Automations keep running and each extra Active Contact is billed at your plan's overage rate on the next invoice. ManyChat notifies you at 70%, 90% and 100% of the allowance, and forgives overage so far if you upgrade in the same cycle. Its help center adds that an account growing "well beyond your plan's maximum cap without upgrading" may eventually see automations pause.
Can I cap ManyChat overage charges?
Yes. Set a contact limit under Settings, Billing, Subscription. The trade-off: once the threshold is reached, automations run only for contacts who are already active that billing cycle, so new people who comment or DM stop entering your flows until the next cycle.
When does upgrading from ManyChat Pro to Business pay for itself?
Month-to-month, from 3,701 Active Contacts: below that, Pro plus overage is cheaper than Business at $99. Advanced beats staying on Business from 11,501. On annual billing the points are 433, 3,553, 11,389 for Essential to Pro, Pro to Business and Business to Advanced.
Does the ManyChat price include WhatsApp messages?
No. WhatsApp needs Pro or higher, and delivered WhatsApp messages are paid from a prepaid ManyChat Wallet on top of the plan; ManyChat's WhatsApp pricing guide (read October 2, 2026) says service messages are billed from October 1, 2026 after 1,000 free per number a month. This calculator leaves WhatsApp message fees out on every side.
Is Instant Reply cheaper than ManyChat?
It depends on volume. Instant Reply plans are flat (Starter $59, Growth $129, Pro $349 a month) with unlimited contacts, and the meter is AI replies, which pause at the cap instead of billing overage. At 2,500 active contacts ManyChat Pro ($39) is cheaper; at 10,000 Instant Reply is $59 to $129 against ManyChat Business at $161.50; at 50,000 ManyChat Advanced is cheaper again. The calculator shows both bills for your inputs.
