ManyChat WhatsApp costs three things: a plan, Active Contact overage above the plan's allowance, and per-message WhatsApp fees paid from a prepaid Wallet. WhatsApp starts on the Pro plan, $39 a month month-to-month or $29 billed annually. Everything below was read on ManyChat's own pages on October 2, 2026.
The plans and what they include#

The pricing page leads with the annual figure. Month-to-month prices match its stated 18%, 25%, 30% and 30% discount labels. The help center calls Advanced overage "custom", while the pricing page lists $0.004 monthly and $0.0028 annual; check your own account. Plans on this model are available by default to accounts created on or after March 2, 2026, and older accounts are moving over country by country, so a long-standing account may be billed differently.
What counts as an Active Contact#
ManyChat's help center defines it: "a contact who has interacted with you through Manychat during your current billing month". A person who sends a DM, comments on a post or replies to a story counts. Messaging the same person many times counts once. Contacts you only imported count only if they send or receive through an automation, ManyChat AI, a broadcast or Live Chat. Counts reset monthly, even on annual plans, and any overage is billed monthly. Followers are not billed.
That definition is why reviews describe the bill as unpredictable. One Trustpilot reviewer wrote, "Even someone reacting to a story counts as a contact" (1 star, September 2026). It matches ManyChat's own wording, so it is a design choice, not a bug.
WhatsApp message fees#
Plan prices do not include WhatsApp messages. ManyChat's WhatsApp pricing guide says it charges "for each template message" delivered, by category (marketing or utility) and by the recipient's country code, deducted from your prepaid Wallet when the message is delivered. Messages from customers to you are free.
From October 1, 2026, service messages (non-template replies inside the customer service window) are charged too. Each WhatsApp Business number includes 1,000 free service messages per calendar month, applied across all countries; billing starts at the 1,001st, and unused messages do not carry over.

Worked example. A UAE number sends 1,000 marketing templates and 3,000 service replies in a month. Marketing: 1,000 x $0.0662 = $66.20. Service: (3,000 - 1,000 free) x $0.0157 = $31.40. WhatsApp fees: $97.60, before the plan and before any contact overage.
What a viral post costs#
On Pro month-to-month, 2,500 Active Contacts are included and each extra one is $0.05. If a post adds 20,000 people to your DMs, the overage is 20,000 x $0.05 = $1,000, for $1,039 in total before WhatsApp fees. Three things limit the damage, and all three are on ManyChat's pages:
- Alerts at 70%, 90% and 100% of your allowance.
- An overage cap in Settings > Billing > Subscription. After the cap, automations keep running only for contacts already active that cycle, so new people stop entering flows.
- If you exceed the limit and upgrade in the same billing cycle, overage so far is forgiven and the contacts count toward the new plan.
The cheapest move for a spike is usually to upgrade. At 10,000 active contacts month-to-month, Pro would cost $39 + 7,500 x $0.05 = $414, while Business costs $99 + 2,500 x $0.025 = $161.50.
Two example months#
- 1,800 active contacts, WhatsApp, one person: Pro at $39, within its 2,500-contact allowance, plus WhatsApp message fees.
- 6,000 active contacts, WhatsApp, two people in the inbox: Business at $99, plus WhatsApp message fees. Staying on Pro would be $39 + 3,500 x $0.05 = $214.
Limits that matter for WhatsApp sales#
- The shared team Inbox with assignments starts on Business ($99). Pro has 2 Inbox seats.
- ManyChat's AI Knowledge Base, where the AI learns your business, is currently available only for the Instagram channel, and takes text and public links.
- A community moderator's guide says WhatsApp audio needs Make or another external tool to process; images can be processed in ManyChat.
- WhatsApp needs its own phone number, and ManyChat's WhatsApp page says conversations are not viewable in the mobile WhatsApp Business app.
When ManyChat is the right WhatsApp tool#
ManyChat works well when WhatsApp is one channel in a campaign: a keyword or ad starts a flow, a broadcast reaches opted-in contacts, and the volume is modest. It has the larger template and integration ecosystem, and Pro with AI is cheap for 2,500 contacts. It is a worse fit when the main job is a team answering open-ended customer questions, because the bill follows who touches your account and the AI knowledge base is Instagram-only.
